NL-Film has recently selected Hectic to create all visual effects for the Ben Sombogaart film The Storm (De Storm), to be released next year. The movie will include al large number of VFX shots that simulate water effects. Hectic has already conducted extensive preliminary tests and research in this field, with the company’s entire 3D crew devoting many hours to the task at hand. Raphael Kourilsky of HecticElectric Paris will serve as the project’s VFX supervisor. John Thorborg will take care of
the grading. Hectic is delighted with NL-Film’s decision and hopes that the project will mark the beginning of a successful collaboration between the two companies.
The Storm will be shot in the Netherlands and Belgium between September and December 2008. Apart from the entire digital intermediate process, Hectic and AVP will also be in charge of all VFX/CG shots for the movie. A considerable amount of the CG work will be devoted to water simulations. There will also be two key VFX scenes: one in which a tidal wave approaches a farm and the other featuring the farm’s attic as it slowly being inundated. Also, a large number of shots will be enhanced with effects that show the full force of the disaster and the inundated land in its wake.

Julia, her sister and parents stand next to their farm, awed by the violence that rages across the skies. An enormous tidal wave, coming in from the other side, takes them completely by surprise. The family takes shelter in their farm and heads for the attic…
The Storm recounts the story of how Julia loses track of her family in the chaos that ensues and shows how she desperately tries to find her loved ones after the storm subsides.
The Storm is scheduled for a fall 2009 release.
